The lecture is mainly discussing the disadvantages of smart cars from three aspects: the chance of accident, the reduction of commuting time and the cost of possessing the cars, totally challenging what are stated in the reading passage advocating the advantages of smart cars from the same aspects.

First of all, the lecture questions the ability of smart cars to prevent accidents. The speaker thinks that the smart cars are making accidents more often and much worse because there are more cars on the road and they are closer to each other, once a car is involved in an accident, all the cars are likely to pile up and make the accident worse.

Second, the lecture also discusses the actual time the commuters can save by driving smart cars. The answer is contradicting what is presented in the passage since there will be more cars on the road because almost all the commuters like to drive the cars. The numerous smart cars will reduce the speed, increasing the commuting time.

Finally, the speaker also doubts the cost of owning a smart car. The reading thinks that the cost will be reduced. However, the lecture thinks that it is expensive to make the sensors required by smart cars and it is also expensive to install them and replace the broken ones, so the cost will increase greatly.
